Living Under A “Rock”: “The Red House”

Turning onto the gravel driveway, excitement wells up inside of me as I prepare to see my mom and two younger brothers, Tracy and Jason, whom I haven't seen in almost three months, and to be a family again after two years living with my father and older brother, Dana, since the divorce. But my father will not be staying with us in the "Red House" now that mom is remarried to her husband, Rocky. Just thinking of his name, "Rocky", makes me nervous and causes a shiver to travel down my spine. He is a large, powerful man with little patience for the weak and even less tolerance for those who don't respect him ... I climb out of the car with the "Red House" directly in front me, and the bark of the largest dog I have ever seen ringing in my left ear; the two-hundred-pound-Saint Bernard yanking on the chain attached to the collar around his neck, trying to break free to greet me with his large white fangs. The front door of the "Red House" is wide open, but completely void of any light, not even the bright rays of the sun are able to penetrate the darkness. Little did I know the evil hiding and waiting for me in the shadows on the other side of that door.

Civil war in Greece caused the parents of the four children to make a major decision, which brings them to a sudden and a fast separation between themselves and their children. They made the decision to send their children to America alone...without their parents, due to the current American immigration laws that were in effect at this time in Greece. Their life evolves from Greece to America and the love they develop for both countries, as they struggle to deal with the occurrences that were about to take place in their life. The four children have to deal with many challenges while moving toward adjusting and learning how to survive without their parents in their new beloved country, America. Now they had come to the wonderful country that their parents had so often described to them with much love during their young years growing up in Greece.

Flashback: My Memories: Ages 2-19 (1951-68)

I feel I grew up at a good age starting with the last year of the 40's, 1949. Through my observation of time past I figured out that there was a lot of history before "my time" and before one knew it, "my time" came shortly
afterwards. Who knew what would transpire during the next couple of decades? My observation served me well for decades later to remember as many events and personal memories as I could. This was how my book "Flashback" came about. There are still many folks out there who can or will relate to many of my memories I have recorded in "Flashback." I trust there will be many younger generations who have very little clue as to how things were in my "back then." Either way, I enjoyed recording my "Flashback" memories and it is for anyone out there to enjoy reading about "my time" from ages two on up through my nineteenth birthday.
