“I’m Left and I’m Right!”: The Pocket Handbook for Progressives https://mindstirmediabooks.com/product/im-left-and-im-right-the-pocket-handbook-for-progressives/ https://mindstirmediabooks.com/product/im-left-and-im-right-the-pocket-handbook-for-progressives/#respond Sat, 29 Aug 2020 23:57:07 +0000 https://mindstirmediabooks.com/?post_type=product&p=3558 Perhaps you have heard of the recent surreptitious discovery of a heretofore top-secret handbook. The booklet apparently has been widely circulated among Progressive Democratic Party operatives and is rather explicit in its guidelines for use. This confidential information was forwarded to me by a former card-carrying member of the book’s Pocket Progressive Democrats. This fellow is now hiding out in a box of uncounted ballots somewhere in the swamps of Florida.

The booklet is organized around an alphabetical listing of certain words and catchphrases complete with instructions for use and inherent meaning for the faithful zealots. The following is the reproduction of the original manuscript as conveyed to me in a plain manila envelope wrapped in brown shipping paper. Having originally been cautioned about the dangers of unprotected handling of this material, I was warned that the pages of the booklet are coated with an anti-Trump concoction, one that causes the eyes to water, the nose to sneeze, and the skin to itch--but only for President Donald Trump supporters. Despite tearing up, uncontrollable sneezing, and the maddening requirement to scratch that which itches, I have persevered to bring you the following. Please be aware, there is no physical danger to the reader.

Known affectionately as Officer Mac in the community he serves, the metro police officer and the ambitious young reporter find themselves tangled in the web of a narrative designed to disguise an abyss of corruption and coverup, manipulation and murder and a hidden agenda of greed, exploitation, power and politics. But who is truly in control of the script?

From the ivory towers of Washington DC to the disenfranchised, disillusioned and down trodden, "Nachash's Narrative" explores how easily the populous can be misled, manipulated, poisoned and weaponized at the whims of the serpent's tongue.

An exciting and fast-paced read, "Nachash's Narrative" exposes the sinister side of today's political and multimedia-fed environment.

During the investigation, our protagonist meets a vivacious woman, falls in love, and takes on the responsibilities of a new family. Against the backdrop of today’s cultural conflicts and madness, he reaffirms the values of love and life, over those of hatred and death.

The attentive reader will discover a great deal more than an American's long life and successful career. His hundred-year life story is set in the context of many of the great political, social, news, entertainment and leisure-time changes that have transformed the way we live our everyday lives.

His life-journey is that of a man who actually was "in the arena" in the trenches of war, bigtime broadcasting and the growth of the Leisure-time industries. He was always willing to try and dare new things. As Theodore Roosevelt might have said, "his place will never be with those cold and timid souls, who know neither victory nor defeat."

The Portrait of a Lady (Adapted by Joseph Cowley) https://mindstirmediabooks.com/product/the-portrait-of-a-lady-adapted-by-joseph-cowley/ https://mindstirmediabooks.com/product/the-portrait-of-a-lady-adapted-by-joseph-cowley/#respond Sun, 03 Feb 2019 03:26:16 +0000 https://mindstirmediabooks.com/?post_type=product&p=2699 Henry James was born in the United States, in New York City, on April 15, 1843 and is considered an American writer, though he spent most of his life in England and, a year before his death in London on February 28, 1916, became a British citizen. He is regarded as one of the key literary figures of the 19th century, writing mainly narrative fiction. He influenced many other writers, most notably Edith Wharton.... James was the son of Henry James, Sr., a well-known intellectual of his day, and the brother of William James. Henry is known especially for the novels in which he portrays Americans encountering Europeans. His style of writing, often verbose and indirect, especially in his later years, can make him difficult to read. Often, too, he writes from the point of view of the characters within a tale, exploring issues related to consciousness and perception.... James contributed significantly to literary criticism, especially in his later years when his works were republished with extensive introductions by James. He insisted that writers be allowed the greatest freedom in their writing, and that narrative fiction be true to life, giving readers a view of life that is recognizable. He felt that the only way to judge whether a novel is good or bad is by whether the author is good or bad.... His imaginative use of point of view, interior monologue, and narrators who were not necessarily reliable, brought depth and interest to his fiction. The Aspern Papers is one of his most notable short novels, along with The Turn of the Screw. In addition to fiction he published articles, books of travel, autobiography, biography, criticism, and plays. Among his masterpieces are Daisy Miller (1879), The Portrait of a Lady (1881), The Bostonians (1886), What Maisie Knew (1897), The Wings of the Dove (1902), and The Golden Bowl (1916), available in this series, Classics Condensed by Cowley, along with The Portrait of a Lady, and The Aspern Papers.

Find out what it's really like to work in such environments. A place that became one of the most crime ridden cities within the United States following the end of WWII. Left with a black and white populace who had come by the tens of thousands to work in the Kaiser Richmond Shipyards, one of the largest in the West Coast during the war effort. Many of the black's were left with nothing, no work, little housing and very little hope or opportunity. They were left with drugs, death and violence. Follow Sergeant Smith's career from the beginning to end. A career that saw many of his fellow officers and friends killed, wounded and injured policing the tough streets of Richmond and the Bay Area. Having served in many police details within the police department, he experienced what it was to be a white American who grew up near the Amish Country, in the farmland of Pennsylvania during the start of the civil rights movement. Martin Luther Kings, "I have a dream" speech in nearby Washington D.C., who then found himself in the battlegrounds of the inner-city. A city where the black community he served complained of police brutality, unjustified police shootings, and unfair profiling because of the color of their skin. A police department where Federal Lawsuits led to consent degrees that did not benefit the good of the department but led to internal strife among the sworn personnel. The results of Affirmative Action policies in hiring, promotions, and the effects felt within the agency which had been served by more than 90% of white sworn officers from its start in 1905. How the agency and the city suffered but started to find its way back by 2015.

After the discovery of a woman’s body -- strangled, mutilated, and discarded on the riverbank like a heap of trash -- homicide detective Kim Langley is determined to find the person responsible. But when the trail of disfigured corpses leads her back to her dark past and celebrity author L.E. Payne, she has to wonder- is the killer out for revenge? As she is forced to play the killer’s perverse game, she learns the past maybe forgotten -- but never dies.

Dark and dangerous, L.E. Payne is suspected of being the merciless killer who hunts in the swamps of South Georgia. Blaming himself for the tragic accident of a co-ed twelve years earlier, Payne drowns his guilt in alcohol, preferring numbness to any emotion. Struggling with his haunted past and failing career, he strives to suppress his growing attraction to the beautiful ghostwriter, Anna Grace, as together they pen a story eerily similar to the murders that have rocked the Hostess City.

Working beside the mysterious writer, Anna is ever aware of the fact that she cannot trust the secretive man she’s falling for. But as the bodies line up one by one, Anna must decide if Payne is innocent or if he is a deadly monster unburden by guilt or remorse, a murderer who kills for the sheer thrill of the game.
