There are so many people hurting in this world, in the church and outside of the church. We have all been through pain and hurt in our lives. One thing is certain we don't have to live in that and stay in that pain. Many of us live defeated lives and a life of very little joy or peace. We are searching everywhere in life for peace, except at the feet of the Prince of Peace. God did not intend for us to live in misery. He wants to restore us and heal us. I share with you because I suffered too long in not knowing the truth and in depression in the church and outside of the church. God has so much more planned for you in your life. He wants to help you with that inner battle that continues to consume you, all the while pretending to be okay on the outside but hurting so much on the inside. The Lord cares for you and about your problems personally and individually. You are very valuable, and loved by the Lord. He wants to be so real in your life. He wants you to have a good relationship with him, others and yourself. He wants to give you life here with peace and joy as well as eternal life. I pray that you come to the feet of the Prince of Peace and receive all that he has for you. He wants to restore that which was lost and heal your broken heart, your emotions, and your spirit man. Come, to the Prince of Peace and search no more. He is all that you have been searching for and so much more. Come!

The process of growing up usually proceeds by accident, without much preparation, and life experiences present herculean surprises when they arrive. Most persons who survive into later life simply get old, but they do not get older with dignity. Many do not prepare for aging, few truly believe they will ever be in that population and most simply struggle through it as a necessary purgatorial experience without much joy. If an author had the ability to command a conductor's baton on the end of a written word and synchronize knowledge from the fields of medicine, psychology, theology and his own personal experience into a fine instructional symphony for all people to learn how to live more effectively; Dr. Cox has accomplished it in this book. He is a physician, a psychologist, an ordained minister, a world renowned scholar, and perhaps most importantly he is now in his 80s and speaking from personal experience.

This little book by the author began as a sad realization during the final days of his father’s passing. The author while sitting with his father remembering their relationship said, “Dad I love you”; his father heard but did not reply. The author realized that his dad never told him what he thought about him as his son. At that moment, he longed for some verification that his father was proud of him in his journey to manhood.

The author, having four sons of his own, realized that he also had not conveyed his pride in each of his son’s development into manhood. He then began the effort to transfer the ideals of manhood to his sons; and verify their accomplishments. Not an uncommon story. Few fathers take the time to verify what our culture considers unnecessary.

But to the author, the connection between father and son is most meaningful. The emptiness once felt, has been filled by telling each of his sons, “Your dad thinks you are a man of honor.”
